OGDEN, Utah, May 6, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 17-year-old boy was killed in an ATV crash in Ogden on Saturday, officials said.

A news release from Ogden Police Department said officials responded to the accident, in the 1000 block of Canfield Drive, just before 12:30 p.m.

“Officers arrived and observed a Polaris ATV had collided with a tree on the north side of Canfield Drive,” the news release said. “They observed two 17-year-old males that had been ejected from the ATV.”

One of the teens, later identified as Juan Carlos Vazquez Ixtlahuaca, was transported to a local hospital with severe head injuries. He subsequently passed away.

The other teen sustained a hand injury and was taken to an area hospital in a private vehicle.

Throughout the course of the investigation, officers discovered that the driver of the ATV had been riding through the neighborhood, travelling west on Canfield Drive. The driver came to a turn and lost control of the ATV, causing him to run off the road, where the ATV struck a tree. Officials did not say which of the teens was driving the ATV.

Neither of the juveniles were wearing helmets, the news release said.
