NEPHI, Utah, Aug. 9, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake Express bus traveling near Nephi on Thursday morning rear-ended a semi double tanker hauling gravel, causing injuries to multiple bus passengers.

Five passengers were transported by ambulance to Central Valley Hospital in Nephi and Mountain View Hospital in Payson, according to information from the Utah Highway Patrol.

A bus from the Juab School District was used to transport the remaining occupants to the Central Valley Hospital.

The rear axels on the semi pup were broken off, the UHP statement says. The gravel had to be offloaded. As of 9:30 p.m. Thursday, the cleanup was still underway, and a travel lane remained closed.

Distracted driving is being investigated as the cause of the crash, the UHP statement says.
