20-Year-Old Who Died In Hurricane Pond Identified

HURRICANE, Utah, July 13, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 20-year-old man man from Colorado City, Arizona who died after an apparent drowning Wednesday afternoon in a private pond in Hurricane has been identified.

The Hurricane City Police Department says 20-year-old Brigham Zitting was swimming with a family member near Quail Creek Ranch when he slipped beneath the surface and failed to reappear.

The family member made repeated attempts to find Zitting before calling for help.

Hurricane City police and members of the Washington County Search and Rescue responded to the scene and eventually located the victim in about nine feet of water.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The relative told investigators he and the victim were trying to swim across the lake at the time of the drowning and misjudged the distance to the opposite shore.
