SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, March 27, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 6-year-old girl was transported to the hospital in critical condition Wednesday evening after she was struck by a car in a South Salt Lake alleyway.

The child was stable, and her injuries were not believed to be life threatening, South Salt Lake Police spokesman Gary Keller told Gephardt Daily.

Dispatch was alerted to the accident at 5:45 p.m., and responded to the area of 3575 S. West Temple.

“The dad parked his truck and the children got out,” Keller said. “They ran to the back of the building, then back.”

A victim was running through the alley when she ran in front of a car and was struck, Keller said. She suffered a severe leg fracture of her lower leg, Keller said.

The girl was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The driver who struck the child remained on scene and cooperated with investigators and displayed no sign of impairment, according to Keller.

“They are doing the accident investigation just to get everything recorded,” Keller said.

The South Salt Lake accident happened about three hours after an unrelated case in Utah County in which another 6-year-old girl was struck. That child died from her injuries after she rode a battery-operated scooter out of a neighbor’s driveway, unseen, and was struck by an SUV.

Gephardt Daily will have more on the South Salt Lake accident as information becomes available.
