Bouncer Seriously Injured at Maxwell’s: Victim Speaks
A bouncer is recovering after he was seriously injured trying to tell a man to leave the bar he was working at because he said inappropriate things to a female patron.
Zachary Thompson, 29, a bouncer for Maxwell’s East Coast Eatery, has since been released from the hospital and told Gephardt Daily that he suffered a concussion, road rash from being dragged, bruises on his torso, trauma to his chest and continued heart related issues.
It all started when Thompson was attempting to escort one of the suspects from the bar after being asked to leave. That’s when the man started assaulting him. Immediately a second suspect, believed to be a friend of the first man, joined in the attack and the two of them dragged Thompson outside where things got violent.
Several other men joined in the assault and Thompson was struck several times, and overpowered very quickly. He managed to pull out his baton and tried to defend himself and even though he was able to strike one suspect in the shoulder with enough force that it bent the baton it did not stop the attack on the 6-foot 5, 350 pound man.
The men allegedly had Thompson on the ground, stomping on his head and face and chest area. Police are reviewing surveillance footage from Maxwell’s as well as from nearby businesses. They have received a cell phone video that was captured by bystanders. Three of suspects are facing felony assault charges.
The suspects fled the scene before police arrived but there were witnesses. The police department is hoping for the public’s help in identifying the suspects that were captured on the surveillance videos and cell phones of bystanders. SLCPD is interested in talking to anyone who witnessed the attack or anyone who maybe recognize the suspects.
