We Want More Of “Bates Motel” Star Freddie Highmore

Freddie Highmore is currently starring as Norman Bates in the A&E series “Bates Motel.” He is best known for his roles in the films “Finding Neverland, “Five Children and It,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “Arthur and the Invisibles,” “August Rush,” “The Spiderwick Chronicles” and “The Art of Getting By.”

“Bates Motel,” now going into it’s third season on A&E, also stars Vera Farmiga. “The third season is the best one yet,” said Highmore. “I’m excited for everyone to see. It’s a lot more of the Norman we expected to see at the start of season one, where now it feels more earned. What I’ve enjoyed most about television, especially playing Norman Bates, is the time you have to develop the character. There’s moments of Norman being more manipulative in the third season which wouldn’t be appreciated if we hadn’t had time to get there properly, his descent into becoming the Norman Bates from ‘Psycho.’

“I was speaking to Kerry, our main writer, yesterday and she was saying how tricky it is to form the whole series around two people and create these vast storylines that ultimately come down to the fact that Norman is one day going to kill his mother, and how did he get there?”
