HERRIMAN, Utah, Dec. 30, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Police say the body of a missing Herriman man has been found in a shallow grave in Tooele County.
According to a news release from the Herriman Police Department, a 32-year-old suspect is in custody and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on multiple felony charges, including: aggravated murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and desecration of a corpse.
Herriman police said the family of Kevin Van Beuge, 60, called police Sunday and reported he had been missing since early Saturday morning.
In the release, police said: “Initial efforts by the family to locate Kevin were unsuccessful. The vehicle Kevin was traveling in was found in Taylorsville and contained blood evidence indicative of a violent altercation.”
Detectives began a “multi-jurisdictional and expansive search” in an effort to locate Van Beuge.” On Monday “investigating information led HPD detectives to a remote area of Tooele County,” where detectives located a shallow grave containing human remains, the news release said.
The body was transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office, where it was positively identified as Van Beuge.
Detectives said an alleged suspect, Jeffrey Mauricio Lopez, 32, was arrested Monday night.
“This is an open and active investigation, no further information will be disclosed at this time,” HPD said.
