Fire destroys building in downtown Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 12, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Firefighters had their hands full early Friday morning after fire broke out at the site of a former Sizzler restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City.

Crews were first called to the scene at 371 East 400 South about 1:17 am. When they arrived they found the vacant building fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters took a defensive approach to keep the fire from spreading to nearby structures and had the blaze knocked down and under control within 15 minutes.

A preliminary search of the building indicated no one was inside at the time of the fire.

There were no reports of injuries.

Fire crews remained on the scene throughout the morning to make sure the fire was completely out.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
