LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah, Oct. 2, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The person who was trapped under a boulder in Little Cottonwood Canyon has been freed and is being flown to University of Utah Hospital in critical condition, according to Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke.

Lohrke said the individual is a 33-year-old man who was trapped under the boulder for a little more than four hours.

Search and rescue crews were dispatched to reports of a person trapped by a boulder in Little Cottonwood Canyon on Sunday afternoon.

Lt. Lohrke said earlier Sunday that details were scant, but initial information was that the person was trapped in the area of the Red Pine trail in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Though Lohrke did not know the extent of the person’s injuries at the time, the victim was reportedly breathing and alert. The boulder was reportedly about the size of an air-conditioning unit.

A second search and rescue crew was also deployed Sunday afternoon to 4500 East Little Cottonwood Canyon. The patient was brought down off the mountain in good condition, with an ankle injury.
