Update: The Hyrum standoff has ended.

HYRUM, Utah, June 29, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Multiple agencies with armored vehicles have responded to the residence of a Hyrum man after he called dispatch reporting he had killed his wife.

A news release from the Cache County Sheriff’s Office says the man called dispatch at about 5 a.m.

“Once on scene, the suspect, a 45-year-old man, opened fire on responding deputies. The deputy found cover and the Sheriff’s SWAT team was called.

“The suspect opened fire on the SWAT team and they returned fire.”

Armored vehicles from Logan City, Brigham City and Ogden City were called, and containment was set up around the house.

“Negotiations teams made contact with the suspect and the suspect sent pictures of his bomb vest and what appeared to be explosives inside the house.”

The release, issued just before 10 a.m., says “there has been no contact with the suspect for a few hours and armored vehicles are clearing windows so SWAT officers can see into the house.

“No further information is available at this time. This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be available later today.”

An earlier social media post, issued by the CCSO at 7:12 a.m., asked people to stay clear of the area of 100 South and 400 West and Main Street, saying the neighborhood was being evacuated.
