HERRIMAN, Utah, Dec. 19, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — A citizen group’s online operation led to the arrest of a Bluffdale man following an investigation by the Herriman City Police Department, according to a news release by the HCPD.
Police said the department received information from the group after it conducted what was described as a “chat operation” involving an adult decoy posing as a teenage girl. The group reported multiple online interactions with an adult male through social media platforms and provided that information to investigators.
According to police, the suspect continued communicating with the decoy after being told her age and later suggested an in-person meeting at Cove Pond Park in Herriman.
Police said the decoy and witnesses from the citizen group met with the suspect at the park on Nov. 11. During the encounter, police said the suspect made inappropriate physical contact and attempted to persuade the decoy to leave the area for a more secluded location. Witnesses then confronted the suspect, who fled the scene in a vehicle.
Herriman City Police said detectives later reviewed the information provided by the citizen group and conducted their investigation.
On Dec. 18, police arrested 52-year-old Jeramie Halverson of Bluffdale. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges related to the investigation.
Police said the department does not encourage private citizen investigations or confrontations, but contact police.
