BEAVER, Utah, July 6, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — About two weeks after it was discovered, the Cottonwood Fire stands at 95,807 acres and 46% contained.
The fire, from an unknown cause, is in the Fishlake National Forest, east of Beaver.
On Sunday, crews continued mop-up operations around several areas of the fire, including around Eagle Point, Oak Creek, and in the bottom of South Fork of North Creek, the Utah Fire Info statement says.
On Monday, firefighters continued to build handline tying into the Little Twist burn scar. Mop-ups continue along Cork Ridge, in South Fork of North Creek, in LeBaron, and in Anderson Meadows. Dozer crews are working to establish line in Anderson Meadows.
Crews will then install a hose lay along the dozer line, the update says. Firefighters will be using IR flights and UAS to find spot fires burning in the interior of the fire perimeter so that they can target individual fire spots, the statement says. Aircraft was used yesterday to work remote sections of the fire that are difficult for firefighters to reach.
Monday brought increased chances of lightning and gusty outflow winds that could exceed 45 MPH.
