WENDOVER, Utah, Sept. 24, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A driver was flown to a Salt Lake City hospital after a vehicle accident led to a fire on the Salt Flats Sunday night.

“Police were dispatched to a vehicle accident on the Salt Flats near the speedway,” said a Facebook post from the Wendover Police Department . “The initial reports were the vehicle was on fire with occupants trapped inside. Body camera footage depicts Corporal Giles and Officer Francis heroically attacking the flaming vehicle with fire extinguishers.”

Officers were able to confirm nobody was inside the burning vehicle and the injured driver had already climbed out of the vehicle. The injured driver was later airlifted to Salt Lake City. The current condition of that person is not clear.

Officials did not release the sequence of events that led to the vehicle fire.
