Exclusive interview: ‘Wonderful’ Johnny Mathis going strong; reflects on career, family on eve of SLC performance

SALT LAKE CITY, April 29, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Johnny Mathis.

The mere mention of his name still gives pause to millions — his music, his style, the smoothness of his voice, the gentleness of his soul — synonymous with love and romance for generations of Americans.

Six decades after his 1957 chart-topping single, “Chances Are,” the seemingly ageless entertainer is on the road again — not that he’s ever left — performing before a packed house at Ecceles Theater in Salt Lake City Saturday.

In an exclusive one-on-one interview on “The Todd and Erin Morning Stream” podcast on Gephardt Daily, the legendary crooner talked lovingly about his parents, his career in music, and what it’s like to take the stage at the age of 81.
