WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH – September 5, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A large field fire in West Valley threatened several homes and burned multiple sheds to the ground Saturday morning.

According to Battalion Chief Chris Beichner, West Valley City fire, they were called to reports of a field fire located at 2621 South Bendixon Dr. (6975 West) around 9:30 a.m. “When our crews arrived there was approximately 1/2 acre that had burned.  Due to the high winds constantly shifting, it eventually grew to over 15 acres,” said Beichner. “Our crews also had difficulty getting to the point of the fire due to topographical changes and canals in the fields.”

Beichner said along with their crews, they called in firefighters from Unified Fire, Salt Lake City Fire and South Salt Lake City Fire departments to help contain the fire. “We were able to get the fire contained before it burned any homes and caused any injuries however there were five sheds that burned and one of the mobile homes have damage to their siding,” said Beichner.

It is unknown if anyone was evacuated early on however Beichner said no structures are in any danger at this time.

Investigators are fairly certain the fire originated closest to one of the mobile homes but are uncertain at this time how the fire started.
