SPRINGDALE, Utah, Jan. 13, 2026, (Gephardt Daily) — A fireplace explosion caught a home on fire Monday, injuring a resident.
Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue said at approximately 3:38 p.m., crews responded to a reported structure fire involving a residence in Springdale after a homeowner attempted to ignite her fireplace and an explosion occurred.
The homeowner sustained minor injuries to her face and declined further medical evaluation at the scene, the Hurricane Valley statement says.
With assistance from the Springdale Police Department, crews secured the scene and shut off the gas supply to the fireplace and the entire residence as a precaution.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation. A leaking valve or pilot assembly is a possible contributing factor, the fire department said.
“We want to remind residents to have gas appliances and fireplaces inspected regularly and to contact a professional if you ever smell gas or suspect an issue. Quick action and proper maintenance can help prevent serious injuries and damage.”
