Former KUTV meteorologist Roland Steadham killed in Idaho plane crash

EMMETT, Idaho, Jan. 27, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Former KUTV2 meteorologist Roland Steadham, 67, was killed, along with another man in an Idaho plane crash Tuesday morning.

Steadham’s death was confirmed by CBS2 in Boise where he had worked for years as the station’s chief meteorologist.

A statement by the Gem County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched to the scene of the small plane crash on the Payette River, west of Montour, Idaho, about 10:58 a.m.

Preliminary information indicated the plane clipped a power line and crashed onto the ice covered river.

“Two male occupants aboard the plane were fatally injured,” the sheriff’s office said.

Steadham’s career as a TV meteorologist spanned 35-years with jobs in Florida, Utah, and Idaho.

According to a report by East Idaho News, Steadham was an avid pilot who had logged more than 3,000 flight hours.

He attended Brigham Young University and the University of Utah before completing the Mississippi State Meteorology Program. Steadham was a member of the American Meteorological Society and held the National Weather Association’s Seal of Approval.

Steadham was the chief meteorologist at KUTV from 2005 to 2009. He then joined the weather team at KTVX in Salt Lake City. He later moved to KBOI in Boise.

Prior to joining KUTV, Steadham worked in Miami for 10 years.

He is survived by his wife and six daughters.

The name of other victim in the crash has yet to released.
