LEHI, Utah, Dec. 29, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — A 33-year-old Herriman man was arrested Sunday for investigation of domestic abuse aggravated child abuse, a first-degree felony, involving a 4-year-old patient identified as his son.
Jesse Scott Rogers reportedly brought the child to Primary Children’s Hospital, in Lehi, for seizure monitoring, Rogers’ court document says.
The alleged abuse incident was reported to Lehi City Police officials by a hospital charge nurse, who reported Rogers’ son “had been observed on hospital video footage being strangled by his father.
“She further advised that multiple additional concerning incidents were captured on video due to the continuous monitoring required for the child’s medical condition throughout that night.”
Officers responded to the hospital, and met with the hospital’s social worker, therapist, charge nurse, EEG techniitan and attending physician, says the arrest document, filed by an officer of the Lehi City Police.
“All parties stated they had reviewed the video footage and observed the child’s father placing both hands around the victim’s neck. They further reported that, in a separate incident shortly thereafter, the father lifted the victim by the neck. In another subsequent incident, the father was observed lying on top of the victim using his body weight and pressing his thumbs into the victim’s eyes.”
Officers obtained a search warrant to view the recording.
“In the video, the victim is observed lying in a hospital bed and connected to medical monitoring equipment. The victim’s father, identified as Jesse Rogers, is also lying in the bed.
“Jesse is observed placing one hand around the front of the victim’s neck and his other hand behind the victim’s neck while in bed. Jesse is observed placing one hand around the front of the victim’s neck and his other hand behind the victim’s neck while repositioning him higher in the bed in a manner that appeared to restrict the victim’s breathing.
“Shortly thereafter, Jesse appears visibly frustrated that the victim would not sleep. Jesse places both thumbs on the victim’s eyelids and forcibly presses them shut, applying significant pressure.
“Jesse then forcefully pushes away from the victim while maintaining pressure on the victim’s eyes. Jesse is heard stating that the situation is the victim’s fault.”
In a later segment, Rogers can be seen returning to the child’s bed, “and places both hands on the victim’s chest, applying his body weight in a manner that again appeared to restrict the victim’s ability to breathe. After Jesse removes himself, the victim is observed crying, squirming, and appearing to be in pain. As the victim continues crying, Jesse places his hand over the victim’s mouth and nose for several moments, restricting airflow while verbally berating him.”
Rogers left the bed, but “a short time later, Jesse returns and sees that the victim had removed medical sensor from his toe. Jesse reattaches the sensor and forcefully pushes it back into place as the victim cries out in pain.Throughout the footage, the victim is visibly distressed and crying, at times reaching toward the camera and calling out for his mother, who is not present.
“Jesse is observed displaying anger and repeatedly scolding the victim during the incidents.”
The reporting officer stated that, after reviewing the recording, “I believe the actions taken by Jesse to be extreme and cause serious injury per Utah Code 76-5-109 thus making the act of intentionally and knowingly a first-degree felony.”
Rogers was ordered held without bail, but a Monday check of inmate records does not show his name among those in custody.
