HERRIMAN, Utah, Feb. 18, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Chief Troy Carr, Herriman’s founding police chief, has announced his retirement, effective March 1.
Carr helped found the department on June 6, 2018. Police began regular patrols on Sept. 30, 2018.
“In an ambitious four-month period, he guided the development of the department’s operations, staffing, and service model, the announcement says.
Carr’s law enforcement career stretched to nearly 34 years.
“I’m proud of what we’ve created here together,” Carr said. “I am grateful for the men and women I have served with throughout my career, and especially for the team who built this department from the ground up. The success of the Herriman Police Department comes from the professionalism and commitment of our people.”
Herriman Mayor Lorin Palmer said “Chief Carr helped establish a strong culture of professionalism and public trust that continues to define a Herriman Police Department that the community is proud of. His leadership shaped how the department operates and how it connects with residents. His impact will be felt for years to come.”
City Manager Nathan Cherpeski also commented.
“Chief Carr is an outstanding leader who led the creation of a high-performing organization and helped establish a thoughtful, data-driven approach to policing,” said City Manager Nathan Cherpeski. “His leadership showed a commitment to transparency, professional excellence, and responsible stewardship of public resources.”
Deputy Chief Cody Stromberg will serve as the department’s interim chief while the City proceeds with the selection of a permanent chief in the coming weeks.
