EMERY COUNTY, Utah, June 12, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The Trail Mountain Fire, which grew to 6,497 acres as of Monday night, is now being managed by the Great Basin Type 2 Incident Management Team.
According to a news release from the Emery County Sheriff’s Office, the Incident Command Post has been established at Emery High School, and firefighters will be sleeping on the ball fields. The public is asked to be considerate and courteous.
Officials want everyone to be aware that there will be a lot of heavy truck traffic in and out of the south parking lot, especially in the early morning hours and again in the evening, so caution is advised.
The fire moved into Deer Creek Canyon, Meetinghouse Canyon, Rilda Canyon and the plateaus above Mill Fork Canyon. As of Monday night, the fire was 10 percent contained and 349 personnel were assigned to the fire. The sheriff’s office will update these figures Wednesday as more information is received.
“The fire has heavy air and ground support and all involved are working diligently in dangerous conditions. A helibase is being established at the Huntington Airport, so residents of Huntington can expect to see more air traffic throughout the coming days,” the release says.
In the interest of everyone’s safety, fire officials are asking the public to avoid traveling State Route 31 into Huntington Canyon unless they have a legitimate need to be there.
