OGDEN, Utah, Aug. 30, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — An inmate at the Weber County Jail died Friday night after suffering a medical emergency, according to a news release from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.
The individual, who had been in custody for a short time and was housed in the jail’s medical unit, experienced the emergency at about 8:45 p.m., the WCSO said. Deputies and medical staff began life-saving measures and called emergency medical services.
The inmate was taken to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead, the release said.
The Weber County Attorney’s Office is investigating the death, as required by sheriff’s office policy. Jail officials said no additional information about the individual will be released at this time.
“We offer our condolences to the family of the deceased,” Lt. Cameron McCarty, operations bureau commander, said in the WCSO statement. “These incidents are difficult for all those involved, and we will work to provide resources for staff members and others affected.”
McCarty also thanked deputies, medical staff and EMS personnel for their response and said additional staff helped ensure services continued for other inmates at the facility.
