KEARNS, Utah, Aug. 6, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Fire Authority responded to a call at a home near 6000 South and 4500 West on Sunday evening and found a backyard shed fully involved in flames.

UFA Battalion Chief Steve Prokopis said as fire crews were pulling out of the station, they saw a heavy column of smoke and called in a second alarm. The second alarm was cancelled when firefighters arrived and saw it was a shed that was burning.

The fire did cause some heat damage to two adjacent homes, Prokopis said. The homes had no smoke damage, but the heat melted the siding.

Prokopis said the owners of the home where the shed caught fire spotted the blaze fairly early. There were no injuries.

Tools and a few other items were in the shed, he said, but there were no utility lines to the structure. He estimated damages at $5,000 to $10,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
