LEHI, Utah, March 2, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — After what Lehi City Police officers are calling a prank gone wrong, charges are being considered against a juvenile accused of phoning bomb threats to locations in Lehi, Taylorsville and South Salt Lake.

On Feb. 25, Lehi officers were dispatched to the Thanksgiving Point area regarding a phoned-in bomb threat, a Lehi police news release says.

“The caller had stated that there were multiple devices set to go off within a short amount of time,” the release says. “After determining that no explosive devices were in the area, the Property Crimes/SET Team began investigating the incident.

Two additional bomb threats were reported the same day in Salt Lake County — one at the Taylorsville campus of Salt Lake Community College and another at The Road Home Shelter in South Salt Lake, the statement says.

“Investigators found that all three threats were placed from the same phone number, even with the caller having made some attempts to disguise the actual number they were calling from. Further investigation yielded vehicle information that led to the identification of a juvenile that was ultimately found to have been responsible for the threats. Investigators made contact with the juvenile as well as their parent(s).”

This case will be sent to 4th District Juvenile Justice Court “to determine the next best course of action, given the age of the involved juvenile,” the statement says.

“Parents please discuss the seriousness of making these types of ‘prank’ calls. In this case, a purported bomb threat, can result in serious criminal offenses for the individual(s).

“Regardless of their intent, making a prank phone call involving a bomb threat or other forms of violence, can spiral out of control and result in injuries. The caller can possibly be held responsible for those injuries and any monetary loss suffered by affected businesses/individuals.”
