OGDEN, Utah, My 27, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was arrested in Ogden Tuesday after he allegedly pointed a gun at a brother and sister in a car, then broke the window with the weapon.

A probable cause statement from the 2nd District Court of Weber County said Timothy Blaine Thatcher, 49, is facing charges of:

  • Two counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony
  • Criminal mischief,  a class B misdemeanor

At approximately 12:45 a.m., the arresting officer responded to the area of 9th Street and Henderson Drive after dispatch received a call from the victim stating that a man had just pointed a gun at her and her brother while they were parked in their vehicle on the street.

“The victims stated that the male had pointed the gun at both of them making them fear they would be shot,” the statement said. “The male then rammed the barrel of the gun into the passenger side front window causing the damage to the window.”

The victims then stated that the male went into an apartment at 972 9th St. The victims described the gun as rifle or shotgun with a brown wooden handle that went all the way to the barrel, and the gun had a black barrel that was approximately 1 foot in length.

The arresting officer allegedly saw that the passenger side front window had a hole approximately two inches in diameter and had cracked outward from the hole.

Officers made contact with Thatcher inside the apartment on 9th Street.

“As officers were speaking with Timothy at his front door, officers could see a rifle laying on the ground in the front room of the apartment that had a brown wooden handle that extended to the barrel, with a black barrel,” the statement said.

Thatcher was read his Miranda rights and agreed to answer questions.

“Timothy stated that he confronted the passengers in the vehicle with a crow bar, which was also laying on the ground in the front room of the apartment,” the statement said. “Timothy then stated that the passenger in the vehicle had started to open the door and he smashed the window with the crowbar. I spoke with a witness who stated that he received a text message from Timothy asking where his shotgun was. Timothy also sent a text message stating that he just broke the window of a car that was outside of his apartment.”

Thatcher was transported to Weber County Jail with his bail set at $11,020.
