WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Sept. 23, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are looking for the male suspect who broke into a mobile home near 3400 South and 4240 West and allegedly threatened two people with a knife before fleeing into the night.

Sgt. Jake Hill, West Valley City Police Department, said the report of a burglary in progress at Westcrest Mobile Home Park came in at about 12:43 a.m. Sunday.

The 19-year-old victim woke up to find the suspect in the room and confronted him.

The victim’s 27-year-old roommate heard the commotion and joined the victim in trying to restrain the suspect.

Hill told Gephardt Daily that’s when the suspect may have pulled out a knife and made his threats in order to get away.

No one was injured in the altercation.

Apparently, the would-be burglar had intended to make off with several items but succeeded only in stealing a couple packs of cigarettes, Hill said.

When the police arrived on scene, the victim was chasing the fleeing suspect, and officers also tried to catch up with him, but he was able to lose them in the mobile home park.

A containment area was set up, and officers briefly brought in canines to track the suspect, but he managed to elude them.

The suspect is described as approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, thin build, in his early 20s. He ran out of the mobile home wearing gray shorts, a black hooded sweatshirt with a white stripe, and no shoes.

Hill said when the suspect is apprehended, he will be facing felony charges of residential burglary and aggravated assault.

Anyone who may have any information about this incident is asked to call West Valley City Police Dispatch at 801-840-4000.
