Man dead after officer-involved critical incident in Cedar City

CEDAR CITY, Utah, Nov. 11, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — One man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Cedar City Monday afternoon.

A news release from Iron County Sheriff’s Office said dispatch received a call from a woman in the area of 820 South and Sunset Drive at approximately 1 p.m.

She reported that her husband was threatening her, her adult son and law enforcement.

Officers responded to the home and requested the suspect to come out of the home with his hands visible.

Officials said the man approached officers, pointing a handgun in their direction. Officers fired multiple rounds at the man, then immediately began lifesaving efforts.

Emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene. He has not yet been identified.

No officers were injured in the course of the incident.

The incident is being investigated by the Iron/Garfield/Beaver Critical Incident Task Force, the news release said, as is protocol with officer-involved shootings.
