SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 18, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is dead after a single vehicle crash Tuesday night in Salt lake City.

The accident happened at about 6:55 p.m. when a man in a white truck, driving south on 900 West near 989 South, lost control of his vehicle, according to Salt Lake City Police Department Detective Richard Chipping.

The truck hit a power pole and ejected the victim, leaving him critically injured, Chipping said.

“Medical personnel arrived at the scene and attempted to resuscitate him, but he was declared dead at the scene,” Chipping said.

The driver, who was alone in the truck was estimated to be approximately 30 years old, but was not identified.

Chipping said witnesses said the truck had been traveling at a high rate of speed, which would have been dangerous during a rain storm, he said.

“It’s likely a hydroplane (accident) or something like that,” the detective said. “Whenever it’s inclement weather, we always suggest drivers slow down quite a bit.”

Chipping said as part of the investigation, blood would be drawn from the victim to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
