PROVO, Utah, April 22, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is dead and a woman critically injured after a domestic shooting in Provo Saturday night.

Provo Police Chief Richard Ferguson told Gephardt Daily that officers were called to a home in the vicinity of 500 N. 1400 West at about 10 p.m. on reports of an argument between a father and son.

While police were on the way to the home they received word of “shots fired.”

When officers arrived they found a woman on the sidewalk in front of the residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Her adult son, who was unhurt, was with her.

The woman was taken to the hospital with what police characterized as “life-threatening injuries.”

She was still undergoing emergency surgery as of 5:30 a.m.

Police say the incident then turned into a barricade situation as SWAT officers surrounded the home and attempted to make contact with the shooter.

After firing tear gas into the residence police used a robot to search the first floor of the home but failed to locate the suspect.

A K-9 unit ultimately made its way into the residence and found the shooter deceased in a second story bedroom. They say he appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators have yet to release the name of the victims.

Gephardt Daily has a crew on the scene and will update the story as more information becomes available.
