CARBON COUNTY, Utah, Nov. 23, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Carbon County man has been booked into jail after police say he threatened to shoot his brother-in-law and his own pregnant sister while at his mother’s house on Thanksgiving.

Joshua Dean Holt, 38, was booked into the Carbon County Jail on Thursday on suspicion of:

  • Intoxication, a class C misdemeanor
  • Criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor
  • Two counts of threat of Violence, one a class A misdemeanor and one a class B
  • Possession of a controlled substance, a class B misdemeanor

A probable cause statement filed by an officer of the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office says Holt was at his mother’s house, drinking, when more family members arrived.

“His sister’s husband came over with his sister,” the probable cause statement says.

“Joshua became angry because he did not like his sister’s husband. An argument ensued and Joshua threatened to shoot his sister’s husband in the head. The sister began yelling at Joshua, and he threatened to shoot her in the head as well. Joshua’s sister is 32 weeks pregnant.

“After making the threats, Joshua walked toward the front door where his firearm was located. At that time, a friend came and pulled Joshua out of the house.”

While outside, Holt punched the hood of his mother’s car, causing damage, the statement says.

“While I was searching Joshua incident to arrest, I located an Alprazolam pill in his pocket,” the officer’s statement says. “Alprazolam is a Schedule IV narcotic.”

The alleged threats were weighted differently, as a class A and a class B misdemeanor, because of the female potential victim’s pregnancy, the statement says.

“Joshua made a movement toward his firearm after making the threat which caused alarm that he was actually going to follow through with the threat,” the statement says.
