Man, puppy sleeping in Provo dumpster escape serious injury when trash is compressed

PROVO, Utah, June 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Provo man was sleeping in a dumpster with his puppy Friday morning when a garbage truck picked up the bin and began to compress the contents.

“Just before 5 this morning, police investigated an injury involving a trash collection truck,” a Provo Police Department Facebook post says.

“A 43-year-old man was sleeping in a dumpster with his puppy near 2100 S. 950 East. A garbage truck collected and compacted the contents of the dumpster including the man and his dog.”

The man began to call out for help, and the operator stopped the machine, the statement says.

“The victim was transported to Utah Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. His dog was unharmed.”
