SALT LAKE CITY , UTAH – May 7, 2015 (Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office)– Mayor Ralph Becker is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2015 Signature Event Fund. The Signature Event Fund, established by Mayor Becker and the Salt Lake City Council, is intended to financially support public events, both large and small, that provide significant economic and cultural contributions to Salt Lake City.

“One of the most fun and unique aspects of living in Salt Lake City is the wide variety of community events that take place throughout the year,” said Mayor Becker. “Signature events are a big part of making Salt Lake City one of the best places in the country for residents and visitors to live, work, eat and play.”

This year, the City allocated $170,000 to fund a broad range of community events. Over 80 event organizers applied for Signature Event Funding and over 40 events received financial support in amounts ranging from $500 to $15,000.

“This fund allows us to support new events that we hope to see become a tradition in Salt Lake City,” said Mayor Becker. “It is also a way to help sustain long running, popular events that have literally become part of Salt Lake City’s DNA.”

Some of the bigger top tier events include the Utah Pride Festival, the Utah Arts Festival, the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Festival and many more. A few first-time events include the Bhutanese New Year Celebration, the Burundi Folklore Festival, the Natural History Museum of Utah’s Lecture Series: Envisioning the Future and several others.

Awardees were selected by a panel of Salt Lake City representatives, with the advice and consent of the Mayor’s Office and the City Council. Considerations for sponsorship are based on public and community benefit, economic impact, cultural and civic contribution and financial need.

The Signature Event Fund applications for the 2016 event year will be available in mid-fall of 2015. For more information about the Signature Event Fund, visit www.slcgov.com/signatureeventsfund.
