Police ID bicyclist struck, killed in hit-and-run accident in Salt Lake City; suspect sought

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 23, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have released the name of a bicyclist struck in a hit-and-run accident Tuesday night, and a photo of a car like one seen leaving the scene.

Tot Nguyen, 72, died from his injuries, the Salt Lake City Police Department confirmed Wednesday.

Officials released a file photo of a white Nissan like one believed to have been seen leaving the scene. The are asking the public to keep an eye out a similar car with front-end damage.

Nguyen was crossing 400 South near 1033 West about 6 p.m. when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle, according to Salt Lake City police. The car continued without stopping, police stated.

Police said the area where the cyclist was hit was dark and it’s unclear whether Nguyen was wearing reflective clothing. Another person who was also in the crash said he has almost hit Nguyen in the past, police stated.

Anyone with information on the driver who hit the cyclist can call police at 801-799-3000.
