Police ID worker killed in Orem greenhouse explosion

OREM, Utah, June 27, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was killed inĀ an industrial accident at an Orem greenhouse Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified by officials as Efren Perez-Sanchez, 39, of Lindon, Orem Police Lt. Trent Colledge told Gephardt Daily.

Perez-Sanchez was using a pressurized tank to help spray greenhouse exteriors at Cooke’s Farm and Greenhouse, at 1645 W. 1600 North in Orem, to keep them cool, around 8:20 a.m. He was spraying plants with a mixture of water, lime and other ingredients when the canister exploded, killing the man, Colledge said.

Perez-Sanchez was hit in the head, and was declared deceased on scene.

The investigation into the incident is underway, and the reason the canister exploded is not clear at this stage. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has also been called in to investigate the incident.
