St. GEORGE, UTAH – October 15, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A reckless driver on SR-18 was killed after hitting a truck head on Thursday morning.

According to St. George police, dispatchers received calls around 8:30 a.m. on reports of a reckless driver headed southbound on SR-18.

Witnesses said the small pick-up truck was travelling at a high rate of speed when he side-swiped a passenger vehicle and didn’t stop. Moments later the driver of the pick-up collided head on with a full size white pick-up truck.

The driver of the white pick-up truck sustained minor injuries and was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center as a precaution.

The adult male driver of the smaller pick-up suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

St. George Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, Utah Highway Patrol troopers and Washington County Sheriff’s deputies all responded to the scene.

The accident is still under investigation and it is not known why the driver of the blue pick-up was driving so erratically. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Both northbound and southbound lanes have been re-opened. However, southbound is still restricted to one lane.
