SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 5, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have identified but not located a suspect who robbed a woman after climbing into her car wielding a handgun early Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred in the area of 1100 N. Redwood Road just after 12:20 a.m., the Salt Lake City Police Department said in a news release.

“A woman exited her car and noticed a male she knows walking in the area,” the news release said. “The suspect appeared to be looking into cars so she called out to him and asked if he was OK.”

The suspect pulled his hood up over his head, pulled out a handgun, grabbed the victim’s purse, keys and got into her car. The victim demanded he get out of her car, which he did, and she drove away, hearing a gunshot as she did. It does not appear that the gunshot hit anything.

“Another witness saw the suspect flee over a fence,” the news release goes on. “The victim recovered some of her property at the scene.”

The suspect has been identified but not located and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
