SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, Feb. 17, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake County man has been arrested on felony aggravated sexual abuse of a child charges.

A probable cause statement from the 3rd District court of Salt Lake County said Derek Voy Taylor, 29, is facing charges of:

  • Three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony
  • 11 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony
  • Lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor

In November 2020, an electronic service provider filed a report with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, reporting one of its subscribers had uploaded hundreds of files of child pornography to his account, the statement said.

The ESP provided the suspected files of child pornography to officials, which contained images of children as young as 6 months old. Some of files allegedly contained images of forced beastiality, bondage, and torture.

Upon further investigation, investigators were able to positively identify the owner of the ESP account as Taylor. Investigators served a residential search warrant at the suspect’s residence in Salt Lake County. During the execution of the search warrant, numerous files of child pornography similar to those described above were located on Taylor’s cell phone and on a hard drive in his property.

After being taken into custody and read his Miranda rights, Taylor allegedly admitted to owning the ESP account and accessing it to view the child pornography. He allegedly admitted to owning both the cell phone and the hard drive and knowing there was child pornography located on the items.

In addition, during the interview, he allegedly admitted to sexually abusing two children he was previously acquainted with. He stated that one of the children was approximately 8 years old at the time, and the other was approximately 6 years old. Taylor admitted to taking an explicit photograph of the younger child.

He was transported to Salt Lake County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
