Saratoga Springs officer injured while disarming man who had knife

SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah, May 9, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A Saratoga Springs police officer was cut while helping other officers disarm a man who was holding a knife he had reportedly used to cut himself.

Utah County deputies responded to a call at about 11 a.m. Sunday regarding a man who had cut himself on purpose. Saratoga Springs police responded to assist, a statement from the sheriff’s office says.

“One of those officers suffered a serious laceration to a finger as he and others took the knife from the man,” the statement says.

“That man suffered serious self-inflicted injuries. He was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital.”

The injured SSPD officer did not require air transport.

“The Saratoga Springs officer is also being treated at a local hospital,” the sheriff’s office statement says. “Neither the man nor the officer’s injuries were life threatening.”
