Utah Man Arrested for Kidnapping, Firing Gun During West Valley City Robbery

Konelio, Herndon L. SO# 385728 mugWEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH – June 10, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A Utah man has been arrested for aggravated kidnapping and discharge of a firearm at Chicken Express restaurant in West Valley City.

Police were called to the restaurant at 2836 S. and 5600 West at 1:43 p.m. Tuesday. According to West Valley City Police, the suspect, 21-year-old Herndon Konelio, entered the restaurant with a weapon.

According to the police report, Konelio confronted three employees. He possessed, displayed and discharged two rounds of a handgun. One round was discharged into the floor and the other into the window. He also pointed the handgun towards one employee, causing the employee to fear for his life.

Authorities were able to negotiate the suspect’s surrender, and the handgun was recovered at the scene.

Although it is unknown how many people were inside the restaurant, no-one was injured in the incident. There is also a preschool, Bright Start Learning Center, near the restaurant, but all the children are safe.

It was initially thought there was a traffic accident in the same area but officials have now said the road closures were in the event of a possible standoff situation.
