SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 9, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 21-year-old employee of Snowbird ski resort who died after the truck he was in rolled off an embankment and into the river Monday morning has been identified.

Unified Police said David Pepper’s body was found 50 yards away from where the truck he was in had been found in the river by an employee in the area.

Det. Ken Hansen with the Unified Police Department said the vehicle was spotted upside down in the river alongside the number two parking lot next to Snowbird ski resort, 9600 Little Cottonwood Canyon, at approximately noon.

“The man was not inside the vehicle, his body was found downstream,” Hansen said. “Ski patrol medical crews went down the incline with a board where they started CPR and brought him to the parking lot.”

Pepper was transported by ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center in extremely critical condition, but died a few hours later.

Hansen said it is not known at this time what caused the vehicle to roll off the edge.

“We are working on investigating what happened, we do not know if it was a medical condition, if it was a mechanical issue with vehicle, or just what the cause was,” Hansen said. “It is not certain how long he was in the water, but employees are estimating anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours in 30-40 degree water.”
