SANPETE COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 18, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Manti High School students were evacuated after a bomb threat Tuesday morning, according to South Sanpete School District.

The students were sent home from the school, at 100 W. 500 North. The notice came in a Facebook post from Sanpete Sheriff’s Office on behalf of the district.

The statement from the school district said:

Parents, We received a bomb threat at approximately 9:35 am. We have evacuated students to the football stadium and are taking appropriate precautionary measures. Students are safe and accounted for by teacher’s classes. We will be releasing students to go home when safety and transportation measures are concluded.

To our knowledge, no other schools are involved at this time. Please don’t call the school on the school lines to keep them open for communication.

At 2 p.m., Sanpete Sheriff’s Office released the following statement: Manti High School received a telephone call from an unknown male subject stating that he was going to blow the school up today and then hung up. After receiving the call, School Resource Officer, Sergeant Kenny Kirkham with the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office immediately evacuated the High School.

Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office, as well as several other local agencies in the County arrived at the school to assist in the evacuation of students, and search of the school in order to determine the validity of the threat. All students were accounted for and safely turned over to parents, or transported home on school buses.

The Department of Public Safety brought a bomb detection K-9 to assist in clearing the school. The Utah County Bomb Squad Task Force also responded with more detection K-9’s. There were a total of four dogs who assisted in clearing the building with officers without finding any explosive device.

Detectives with the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating an individual believed to be involved with the incident. Further details and information will be made available as the investigation continues.

A special thanks to all law enforcement involved, including the Department of Public Safety, Utah County Bomb Squad Task Force, and for the South Sanpete School District for coordinating with local law enforcement to make this event perform as smoothly as possible.
