Logan Man Killed After Opening Fire on Officers

LOGAN, UTAH – July 30, 2015 – (Gephardt Daily) – Logan City Police were forced to shoot a suicidal man after he pointed the gun at them and opened fire.

Officers were first dispatched to a home at 346 N. 200 East on a report of a suicidal man. Upon arriving Officers were able to make contact with the man by phone.

When it was discovered the man had a firearm and was threatening suicide, Cache County Sheriff SWAT teams were requested. Sheriff’s officers set a perimeter and negotiations continued for several hours.

The man, identified as 53 year-old Roger Darrin Barker, came to the doorway of his home with a handgun and fired at police officers. Both a Logan City Police officer and a Cache County Deputy returned fire hitting the man.

Paramedics arrived and provided advanced life support en-route to Logan Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Both officers have been placed on routine administrative leave pending an investigation.

Davis County Sheriff’s Department and Davis County Attorneys office have been requested to take the shooting investigation.
