SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 8, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect was taken into custody on Monday after a stabbing and a SWAT standoff in Salt Lake City.

A tweet from Salt Lake City Police Department said Marcus Mclain, 53, will be booked into jail on an attempted homicide charge.

SLCPD Sgt. Brandon Shearer told Gephardt Daily officials received a call of a stabbing that occurred inside an apartment in the area of 1805 W. Kimberly Circle (450 North) at approximately 11 a.m.

“Officers arrived and located a victim, that victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition,” Shearer said. “The suspect was still on scene and barricaded themselves inside an apartment. Once officers arrived they were able to make contact with the suspect and set up containment on the area.”

SWAT teams were called to the scene and just before 1 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody peacefully.

Shearer said at this early stage investigators are not sure of the relationship between the suspect and the victim, but it seems they may both live in the same apartment. He said it appears the victim was stabbed with a knife. The victim is expected to survive his injuries.

At one point, officials broke a window in the apartment in question, after they smelled what they thought was natural gas in the area.

“There was a concern that due to that there could be an incident with the gas so our initial purpose in breaking a window was to allow ventilation to get the gas out of the apartment,” Shearer said. “And at the time they broke it they were able to speak to the subject and get him to come out.”

Detectives are currently processing the scene and will attempt to locate evidence inside the apartment.

The man who was stabbed has not been identified.

Gephardt Daily has a crew on the scene and will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
