A fast moving fire gutted a house in Taylorsville Tuesday night, leaving a family without a home and wondering if their dog made it out alive.

According to Unified Fire Battalion Chief Brian Anderton, 50 firefighters were called to the residence near 6300 South 2700 West around 7:30 p.m.

There were three adults and two juveniles inside when the fire broke out.

Investigators believe it started in the basement.

Anderton spoke with Gephardt Daily Wednesday afternoon confirming evidence suggests the fire was started by a five-year-old playing with matches, but investigation is still ongoing.

The missing family dog has yet to be recovered.

The occupants were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

Damage is estimated at about $125,000.
