Teenage skateboarder struck by Salt Lake City Police car

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 24, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A teenage boy riding his skateboard Thursday morning was struck by an unmarked Salt Lake City Police car.

The collision happened at 7:24 a.m. in the intersection of 900 South and 400 West. The police car was traveling northbound on 400 West. The skateboarder had been traveling eastbound in a westbound bicycle lane of 900 South, and was crossing the intersection.

The collision resulted in only minor injuries, said Sgt. Todd Royce, Utah Highway Patrol, the agency investigating because of the Salt Lake City Police Department’s involvement.

The boy was not transported to the hospital, Royce said. His parents responded to the scene and signed a waiver, Royce said.

Royce also said there was no obvious damage to the SLCPD car. The investigation by the UHP is ongoing, Royce said.
