KEARNS, Utah, June 19, 2026 (Gephardt Daily)— Three alleged gang members have been arrested in connection with a March shooting in Kearns that left a man critically injured, Unified Police announced Thursday.

The arrests stem from a March 19 shooting reported at about 1:30 p.m. near 4000 West and 4800 South. Officers from Unified Police, the Herriman Police Department, Taylorsville Police Department and the Salt Lake County Metro Gang Unit responded to the scene and found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Unified Police said investigators have arrested Angel Garcia, 20, Diego Cruz, 18, and Jose Gutierrez-Gonzalez, 28, all of whom allegedly are documented gang members. According to police, the victim was approached by two individuals who fired multiple rounds before fleeing the area. Detectives later determined a vehicle driver also was involved in the incident.

“With these three arrests, investigators have accounted for all three suspects believed to be involved in this shooting, and all are now in custody,” Unified Police said in a news release. The department added that the investigation remains active as detectives pursue additional leads.

The arrests were made through a joint effort involving Unified Police, the Salt Lake County Metro Gang Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service, which assisted in taking the suspects into custody.

Salt Lake County Jail records show Garcia and Cruz were booked June 17 and remained in custody as of Thursday. Both are being held on suspicion of multiple felony counts, including assault-related offenses, firearms violations and obstruction of justice.

Information on the custody status of Gutierrez-Gonzalez was not immediately available.
