COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah, Feb. 27, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A small fire Saturday night in Cottonwood Heights forced the evacuation of Trader Joe’s and Cafe Rio.

The incident happened just after 7 p.m. at 6989 S. 1300 East.

When crews arrived, flames and smoke were coming from the roof.

The fire was extinguished quickly and no injuries were reported.

Preliminary investigation shows a contractor had been on the roof earlier Saturday replacing the vents and had left behind some supplies including coals possibly used for welding.

The hot coals appear to have smoldered until the roof caught fire.

Both businesses remained evacuated until crews could deem them safe.
