SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 22, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Two drivers were critically injured Saturday morning in a wrong-way collision on Interstate 80 near downtown Salt Lake City.
The collision happened at 5:15 a.m. near the Interstate 215 interchange, at mile marker 117.
“It started as an agency assist,” Trooper Sanchez, Utah Highway Patrol, told Gephardt Daily.
“Salt Lake City police responded to a burglary call. They pursued one of the possible suspects, and that suspect eventually got in a vehicle and fled.
“Salt Lake City terminated their pursuit at the time, but they did see the vehicle get on I-80 the wrong way. They notified Highway Patrol and, almost immediately, we started receiving calls about wrong-way vehicles in the area.”

By the time troopers got to the scene, the wrong-way vehicle, a Subaru, had collided with a pickup truck.

Both drivers, who were the sole occupants of their vehicles, were transported by ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center with critical injuries, Sanchez said.
“They’re both expected to recover,” he said.
As of 10:30 a.m., the roadway was fully reopened, according to the Utah Department of Transportation website.
