UHP makes more than 40 arrests as part of St. Patrick’s Day DUI blitz

UTAH, March 18, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah Highway Patrol troopers made more than 40 arrests over the weekend as part of a St. Patrick’s Day DUI blitz.

“Raising a pint to celebrate #StPatricksDay?” UHP tweeted Saturday early evening. “Make sure you have plans for a safe and sober ride home. @UTHighwayPatrol has a DUI blitz tonight starting at 9 p.m.”

ON Sunday morning, UHP announced troopers had made a total of 22 arrests. They updated the total on Monday:

“The final tally for DUI arrest made by troopers over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend is 42. #ifyoudrinkdontdrive #drivesober.”

In total, UHP added 75 evening shifts statewide over the weekend to target impaired drivers.

In 2018, troopers made some 1,800 traffic stops as well as 38 DUI arrests during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
