MIDVALE, Utah, March 18, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — One suspect has been arrested after a shooting Sunday night near the Chelsea Park Apartments in Midvale, officials said, while another suspect is still outstanding.

The Unified Police Department tweeted Monday morning that the arrested suspect is Randon Louis Cummings, 18. Cummings was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on robbery and aggravated assault charges. “The male white suspect is still outstanding,” the tweet said.

Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray told Gephardt Daily Sunday night a call was received just before 10 p.m., reporting shots fired at 7351 Catalpa St.

“What we’ve been able to determine so far,” Gray said, “is that there was a group of males, ages 18 to 20, and for some reason they became engaged in an altercation. At some point, someone pulled out a gun and began firing.”

Two 18-year-old men were hit and were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to their extremities.

Gray said at the time police were searching for two suspects. Cummings was subsequently located and arrested.

The second suspect, who is still outstanding, is a Caucasian male, 18 to 20 years old, who was wearing a hoodie at the time of the shooting.

“We don’t know if it’s gang related. We’ll be talking to the victims,” Gray said.

She added that police are also talking with witnesses, and the witnesses are being cooperative.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
