Update: Officials ID 96-year-old man killed in Magna house fire

MAGNA, Utah, Dec. 16, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a man killed in an early morning house fire in Magna.

The deceased man is Willis Shepherd, 96, said a tweet from Unified Police Department.

“Our deepest condolences to his family,” the tweet added.

Crews were called to the incident at 3378 S. Broadway St. at approximately 4:15 a.m., according to Unified Fire Authority officials.

A Unified police officer pulled Shepherd, who used a wheelchair, from the house, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other people who were inside the home at the time were transported to area hospitals.

The fire began in the basement and investigators are working to determine the cause.

At this time there is no estimate of the damages caused by the blaze.
